Caldora, part of Farnese Vini, is located in the Abruzzo region of Italy, on the Adriatic coast.
Caldora has a special arrangement with the many growers who own over 1,500 hectares of land in the two coastal provinces of Teramo to the north and Chieti to the south. The award winning winemaking team carefully selects the best portions of each vineyard depending on clones, position in the vineyard and age of vines. They then direct the farming of these vineyard rows including reducing the yield per vine, to ensure the highest quality grapes. This arrangement means they are not actually buying grapes, but rather renting vineyards or portions of vineyards.
Since most of the vineyards are family owned, they tend to be smaller allowing complete harvesting of all properties in about 3 days. This means they can afford to wait for the optimum time to harvest. The families take pride in their work, and are also better compensated.
Theirs are modern style wines made with predominantly indigenous grapes such as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, but also include some international varieties. They are fresh and aromatic, balanced and fruit forward and highly affordable. Great representations of the region.
